HPSDMA issues weather alert in Himachal for April 18–20, people advised to stay cautious

The Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) has issued a weather alert for April 18 to 20, warning of rain, snow, hail, and strong winds in many parts of the state. The advisory, shared on April 15 via the department’s official handle on X (formerly Twitter), urges people to stay safe and avoid venturing into risky areas during this period.

As per the forecast:

  • Upper regions of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, and Kullu may receive light to heavy rain or snowfall.
  • Remaining parts of Kangra, Shimla, Mandi, Chamba, and Kullu are also likely to witness rainfall.
  • Districts like Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan, and Sirmaur could see light to moderate showers at some places.
  • Rain is also expected at several popular tourist spots, which could affect travel and local movement.

  • Hailstorms: Orchard owners should cover crops using hail nets or protective sheets.
  • Heavy rain: Avoid flood-prone or waterlogged areas.
  • Lightning/Thunderstorms: Stay indoors with doors and windows closed.
  • Strong winds: Stay in a sturdy building and avoid open areas, roads, and railway tracks.
