Himachal sees decline in overall crime, rise in cybercrime cases: NCRB Data

National Crime Records Bureau data recently released has shown that Himachal Pradesh recorded a decline in overall crime cases in 2024 compared to the previous two years. However, the report also highlights a steady rise in cybercrime-related offences across the state.

According to the NCRB figures, a total of 13,505 criminal cases were registered in Himachal Pradesh in 2023, while the number dropped to 12,071 in 2024. This means the state recorded 1,434 fewer cases in 2024 compared to the previous year, indicating a decline in conventional crimes.

At the same time, the data points to an increasing trend in cyber-related offences. The report states that 77 cybercrime cases were registered in 2022, which increased to 127 in 2023 and further rose to 148 cases in 2024. The numbers reflect the growing challenge of online fraud and digital crimes in the state.

Experts believe that with increasing internet penetration and digital transactions, cases related to cyber fraud, online scams, and data-related offences are rising rapidly. The trend has raised concerns over the need for stronger cyber awareness and digital security measures.
